The first thing to do is to sit back and consider the type of driving job you actually want to have. Truck driver salary depends on many factors. For example: What sort of truck do you want to be driving? Do you want to be driving a truck up and down the country transporting goods? Are you looking for dump truck driving jobs in your local area? Consider the actual type of truck driving job and are looking for.
The next step will be to obtain all of the necessary certifications that you need in order to actually gain employment. This will necessitate finding a suitable school where you can train. You also need to make sure that you have the necessary funds in order to pay for your training. You may be able to find a company who will somewhat subsidize your training and therefore you should look into this option as well.
In order to find a suitable job you should then start your search during your training phase. One of the best ways of doing this is to make sure you actually go to a school that is affiliated with certain trucking or construction company in your local area. If they have a good reputation then this is going to help you get employment.
It is a good idea to actually ask your school about the various different trucking companies who may regularly place graduates in. It may be that they commonly produce graduates who gets employed by certain companies. Ask them for a list of popular companies that could apply for.
If you really want to find some jobs they need to get networking. The industry does work quite commonly around referrals and word-of-mouth and therefore the more people you talk to and more people you tell about your attempts to find work, the more likely someone is going to offer you employment. If you know someone in a construction company will be trucking company this is also going to be helpful in getting your foot in the door.
You also need to start thinking outside of the box. Don’t only start applying to the larger companies, but try to go with the smaller and more independent companies as well. It is more likely that you are going to be able to gain employment with one of the smaller companies, particularly if you have just obtained your commercial drivers license.
You also need to focus on your resume. Is this really up to scratch? If not, you need to spend some time perfecting it. Your resume is going to be very important in getting you past the first stage of the screening and application process. If you submit and apply using a pretty poor resume this is really going to hinder your chances.
